REDWOOD RS

Do you have an older car, maybe a classic, which is off the road and you haven't the time to get it up and running again? Maybe you don't have the tools, or the knowledge you require. Maybe you have electrical problems and whilst you can do your own mechanical work, you're not confident enough with electrics. Since the car is off the road, the first problem you have is getting the car to a garage for them to have a look at it. Maybe I can provide the service you need. Since I am mobile I can come to you and work on it where it is garaged.

I am an auto technician with over 40 years experience in the motor trade, working on cars and trucks for manufacturers like BMC/Leyland including Austin, Morris, MG, Riley, Wolseley, and Jaguar, Rover/Land Rover, Triumph; Ford/Iveco; Fiat; Bentley; Renault; TVR; BMW and Daimler-Benz; and up to and including doing diagnostic work on the latest complex electronic vehicles as an RTE for Renault. I ran a workshop successfully in Accra, Ghana in the eighties, on a two year contract. I too run classic vehicles and have a Matra Murena (see below) which I have had from new in 1983 and now an early special Espace Quadra (also made by Matra) and I'm the Murena, Espace and general technical advisor for the Matra Enthusiasts Club UK. Until I became self employed, I was also an M.o.T. tester, and used to prepare H.G.V.'s for their annual test, so I know what is required and can advise on these issues, or make sure your car meets the necessary standards.

Redwood RS:
I started working for myself back in 2007, when I became fed up of the politics in the motor trade and decided I was no longer getting job satisfaction working for others, and wished to get back to enjoying my work, and giving customers better service and value for money than the dealers or garages often provide. Since Matra cars are my speciality, I can often provide spares from my stock. Since working for myself I have worked on such different cars as the MG TA, 1936 Standard 10, 1949 Triumph Roadster, TR2, Rochdale Olympic and a number of microcars such as the late 50's Berkeleys, Bond, BMW 700, Frisky Sport, Heinkel, Subaru 360, and Trabant P601; with dynastarts, and freewheel gearboxes; and successfully rally prepared several cars for the over 3,000 km Liege-Brescia-Liege and Micro Marathon rallies, incl. B95, 105E, Fiat 500, Trabant and Sunbeam Stiletto.

Type of work:
Any electrical work, whether diagnostic, repair or restoration, including making up complete wiring looms. Older and classic car looms can be made to look like the original, if required. If you have any special requirements or modifications, try me - I can design circuits from scratch. I always provide wiring diagrams for any additions or modifications, so that anyone competant can work on the car if necessary at any later time. I will also consider engine or gearbox repairs or overhauls; and can work with most carburettors.

Overseas payments:
I have a few overseas clients who either send parts to me for overhaul, or I do work here for them, such as checking out vehicles which they wish to purchase, or maintaining cars they own but keep here in the U.K. International payment can be made through Moneybookers (see link at the foot of the page) where I think you'll find the charges are less than you would pay through the banks.

My charges:
I charge £30 per hour plus parts and my travel expenses to and from your location are 45 pence per mile, for anything over 10 miles.
